Any City USA-- Companies
The first step in the job search is to create a list of prospective companies.
Databases
The following databases allow you to search for companies that meet your specified criteria (i.e. geographic location, company size, sales, private or public, SIC or industry keyword, etc).
Create lists of U.S. public and private businesses. D&B provides directory information for approximately 1.4 million leading businesses. Information includes type of ownership, primary and secondary SIC codes, number of employees, amount of sales, names of principal executives and executive biographies.
You can search by MSA, city, zip code, and other geographic data.
Hoover's provides information for both public and private companies. Information is broken down into a fact sheet, key people, products/operations, industry, competitors, links to a few news articles and some basic financials.
Click the "make a list" icon on the home page to create a targeted list.
Both databases provide 100-400 page PDF guides focused on company, industry. and career guidance. They also provide access to shorter company research, career research, industry research and career advice articles.
