Careers in Marketing--Targeting Companies
Identifying companies of interest:
-
The Business Library has access to a wide range of business resources that help create a list of target companies including:
D&B Million Dollar Database
Factiva
Gary Price's List of Lists
This site acts as a master list for all the special issues of magazines. Lists include Top 100 Megabrands, Annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens, Fortune 500, Fastest Growing Small Companies, etc.
Books of Lists
The library has hard copies of 62 Books of Lists from around the country. They contain hard to find information on local companies across the U.S. and are housed in the CareerRef section of the Business Library.
Specialized Directories
There are many print directories that focus on a specific industry or market segment. The library collects many specialized directories including Hoover's Guide to Media Companies and Sports Marketplace.
The Green Book: Worldwide Directory of Marketing Research Companies and Services (electronic access available on-campus to Emory faculty, students, and staff) is an excellent place to start. Check EUCLID (the online catalog) to determine if a directory is available for a particular industry or market segment.
-
Consult with CMC or Goizueta Business Library staff.
- Browse the Goiuzeta Marketing Association's listing of Career Resources available via the Goizueta Business School Intranet.
Identifying job listings and networking opportunities:
- Again, look at the Goizueta Marketing Association's Career Resources
on the Intranet and
the job listings on WetFeet
or Vault.
- Search the listings on sites that cater specifically to marketing professionals: Talent Zoo, MarketingCrossing, MediaBistro, Mediapost, AdAge Talentworks, AMA Job Bank, DMA Job Bank
- Are you a member of a professional marketing association? Associations
and other professional organizations are an excellent resource
for job postings and making contacts within a company or industry.
Many associations offer extensive membership discounts for students
while providing access to newsletters, listservs, job listings
and member directories. The American
Marketing Association, for example, posts a variety of career
leads on their home page.
Associations Unlimited
This database contains detailed listings for over 460,000 international and U.S. national, regional, state and local membership organizations in all fields. Search it for other marketing related associations and organizations.
Also, web sites like Georgia's TechLINKS provide comprehensive listings of local association meetings, events and networking opportunities.
