International Companies -- Company Overviews and Screening

Many of our commercial databases have listings of international companies and users have the capability to select companies based on certain criteria. There are databases that are useful for finding company hierarchies and for identifying companies by specific product lines. Finally, there are some specific sources for public companies annual reports.

Company Overviews and Screening

Thomson ONE Banker
Locate and analyze U.S. and international public companies, with emphasis on financial information, including historical and current financial statements, stock prices, estimated earnings, deals, and more. Create your own list of companies by location (including all 20,000 "non US"), various industry sectors, size, exchange and more. Includes peer analysis.

Factiva
Find U.S. and international company overviews using the Companies/Markets tab; search for over 18,000 non-U.S. listed companies by industry, location, employees, financials, and performance.

Marketline Business Information Centre (formerly Datamonitor)
Company Profiles include: business description, history, major products and services, locations and subsidiaries, top competitors for 10,000 U.S. and international public and private companies; also includes SWOT analysis for the top 1000 companies. Search for a known company or browse for companies by industry.

Hoover's Online
Basic company information by company name or browse by geography.

Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage
U.S. companies and non-U.S. companies traded in the U.S., plus Canadian companies.

ISI Emerging Markets
Listed and non-listed companies arranged by individual country or industry within the country. Islamic Finance Information Service is a special component on Islamic companies.

D&B - International Dun's Market Identifiers via Dialog
Directory listings, sales volume, and employee data for nearly 29 million establishments in 204 countries outside of the U. S. and Canada. Primarily smaller, unlisted companies; screen by location, size, product, affiliations and more. Use restricted to current Goizueta Business School students for curriculum-based research. Nexis - International Company Reports
Select Find More Sources. Expand Company and Financial/ Company Profiles and Directories/by Country and Region. Select the region of your choice. Click Add to add the publications to your search and finally click the bar Done - Search Now.

Specialized Resources

The databases listed above can be used to identify a known company or to screen on a variety of categories. They all contain most of the basic company information. Listed below are a few resources designed for special applications.

Kompass (through Dialog)
Use to identify companies by very specific product listings; arranged in seven files by regions of the world. Business information for 1.8 million companies in 75 countries with emphasis on manufacturing, industrial, and associated service sectors. Files use the detailed Kompass classification system consisting of approximately 50,000 product/service descriptions and codes. The database is useful for locating business opportunities for distributors, importers, and exporters, as well as manufacturers and suppliers. Kompass.com, the web interface, provides contact information for the 1.8 million companies, searchable by country and product. Additional information requires payment.

Corporate Affiliations (via Nexis)
Use to search for companies headquartered in one country with affiliates or subsidiaries in another; Contains business profiles and corporate linkage ("who owns whom") for approximately 184,000 public and private companies worldwide. Each record includes basic company information, corporate family hierarchy, and limited financials, where available.

Use to search for companies headquartered in one city or country with affiliates or subsidiaries in another; directory file showing the size of the corporate structure, family hierarchy, and key information on the parent company, headquarters, branches, and subsidiaries worldwide. Annual Reports and other Corporate Filings

Listed companies often have their most recent annual reports on their web sites. Some Stock Exchange web sites also host the national companies' filings. For international companies, those reports could be in English or the language of the country, using $ U.S. or local currency and following standardized or local filing rules. Companies that are NOT traded in the U.S.
will not have an extensive list of filings.

Direct links to European and U.S. company financial statements; registration required.

SEDAR (System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval)
Canadian electronic filing system, with PDF documents available to the public from 1997.

Some of the national Stock Exchanges may have company annual reports or at least company financials.
