Use ABI/Inform to locate the following types of articles

case studies of company-specific corporate practices
discussions about management-related trends

Suggested ABI/Inform search strategies:

1) To locate article discussing these issues:

Click on ADVANCED SEARCH tab at top of ABI/Inform home page
Type keywords in CITATION AND ABSTRACT search box
- Example: social responsibility or corporate citizenship or business ethics
Pull down SORT BY RESULTS BY box and select "Most Relevant Articles First"

2) To locate articles presenting case studies of companies and their practices:

Click on ADVANCED SEARCH tab at top of ABI/Inform home page
Type keywords in CITATION AND ABSTRACT search box
- Example: social responsibility or corporate citizenship or business ethics
Pull down the box below CITATION AND ABSTRACT and select SUBJECT
Type case studies in the corresponding search box
To narrow your search to case studies for a specific company:
- Pull down the box below SUBJECT and select COMPANY
- Type the name of the company in the corresponding search box (only type main company name; do not include endings such as inc, co, corp, etc.)
Pull down SORT BY RESULTS BY box and select "Most Relevant Articles First"

3) To locate discussions about company-specific practices:

Click on ADVANCED SEARCH tab at top of ABI/Inform home page
Type keywords in CITATION AND ABSTRACT search box
- Example: social responsibility or corporate citizenship or business ethics
Pull down the box below CITATION AND ABSTRACT and select COMPANY
Type the name of the company in the corresponding search box (only type main company name; do not include endings such as inc, co, corp, etc.)
Pull down SORT BY RESULTS BY box and select "Most Relevant Articles First"

Factiva

Use Factiva to locate the following types of articles:

hot/current issues
company-specific activities
corporate investigations

Suggested Factiva search strategies:

1) To quickly locate article discussing current issues:

Click on LOOK UP link at top of page
Type: business ethics; click on LOOK UP button
"Corporate Social Responsibility" will display
Click once on the phrase; it will drop into the Indexing box below
Change the date if necessary
Click the RUN SEARCH button

NOTE: Factiva defines Corporate Social Responsibility as: stories about socially responsible business practices. News on companies that strive for commercial success in ways that respect human rights, ethical values, communities and the environment. Also news on ethical investment funds.

2) To locate news specific to a company:

Type the company name, limiting it to the articles title and first few paragraphs
- Example: hlp=wal-mart
Combine this with descriptive keywords
- Example: hlp=wal-mart and (business ethics or social esponsibility or corporate citizenship or corporate conduct or corporate giving)
